At Hurley Hammer Works, our mission is to share our creations so all can see what we have so much fun creating.  Most are for sale as we can't keep them all even though we want too.

It all began with an idea I had in 1993 after seeing an old truck door with a wood sculpture of someone in it. It really spoke to me and never forgot it, wanting to make one for myself. Fast forward almost 30 years and I found a vintage truck door a few years ago that I thought would be the perfect candidate for a sculpture. Bought it, put it in the back of the garage. When I retired in 2021, not too long after I dragged it out , got some rusty sheet metal I had around and made the first one. It was so much fun and I loved the way it came out so I did another. Then another and so on. 

Half the fun has been the hunt for the right door -the right subject car, patina, maybe the doors story/history. The road trips with Dawn to get doors has been so much fun, meeting some awesome people along the way. We have accumulated maybe too many doors but many times just can't resist. I create the head first, then go down into the basement 'door stock' and get a feel what that head wants to drive or be in.
